119 - Pictorial Evolution by KaidokJ 119 - Pictorial Evolution by KaidokJ
Which is just a fancy way of say, I think I'm getting better. This the current evolution of 118 - Get to stepping..., as mentioned a few days ago. Nothing really special, I just like seeing the growth over the past couple of years, although the first two are pretty cringe worthy now...
Anyway, let me know what you think, or not. This is mainly to show other artists that drawing is a skill, it's not about talent. You practice and you study and eventually the drawings get better. You just need to stick with it, and put in the effort.
More on the way.

License? Wait, I was supposed to have a license... Awk-ward...
Anyhoo, thanks for the encouragement, if not the tragically late legal information.

I fully agree with you that drawing is a skill, I started thinking that using the word "talent" is just because of lazyness. Being skilled is about how many time you spent in a field. Some people say, that "xy  is only 16 years old, he is so talented, I will never be able to draw that good", but the reality can be, that he started it around when he was 6 years old, and there is already 10 years of work. And maybe after 10 year of practice the other one could draw at the same level or even higher.

Okay, back to the drawings, I don't think the first two is bad. I think the torso is very well drawn in the first one, but the head seems a bit small, and the legs a little too thin and the folds around the knee are a bit strange. On the second one the proportions and clothing drawing definitely improved a lot. On the third one the pose seems more natural, and the proportions are also great, but it's also drawn in a more cartoony style, which gives more freedom.

Thanks for the short critique, I definitely agree with everything you're saying. Posing has been a major goal for me, which is one of the main reason I consider the latest version to be more successful, and style too, so that was a bonus.

As to the question of talent, I do believe it's a thing, I just don't consider it to be a determining factor in creative success. I sort of think of talent as a head start. People have natural inclinations and affinities for certain aspects of anything, recognizing pitch, recognizing ingredients in a recipe, being able to visualize 3 dimensional shapes, but without training, these natural abilities will only get them so far. True they get a head start, but if they don't practice, that head start is as far as they will go. I think that is why a 16 year old (with only a little experience) can produce a piece of work that defies their age, while others struggle. The thing is, for the person who struggles and overcomes, they have gained something that the naturally gifted person doesn't, growth. And that is what creativity and art should be about, growing. I know it's something that I certainly need to strive for more in my work. :)

Getting better? Certainly in the sense of more detailed and more realistic, but all three have their virtues. I prefer the face on one of them, the bust on a second, and the feet of a third. You can maybe work it out.

Thanks. I realize that the previous versions have virtues, and I probably should have mentioned that this evolution also demonstrates a better grasp of stylization, which was something I have struggled with, so in that respect I consider the third version the best. But I understand where you're coming from, so thanks for the encouragement. :)

Given what you were working towards, I have to agree. It is. Among other details, her foot positioning is easily the most natural. Also, the clothes are better drawn. Lots to be pleased with.

They are all three pretty lovely, I think I like the tall version of her the most, though

I can understand that. That one might be a little more realistically proportioned, so I can see why you might like it. Either way, thanks for the kind words and encouragement. :D
